Delicious Small Batch Hotdog Sauce: Perfect for Freezing

If you’re like me and not a fan of canned hotdog sauce, then you should try this easy recipe. This wonderful hotdog sauce is from a little mom and pop restaurant in my hometown. They’ve been cranking out their fantastic hotdogs since 1960 and they’re still going strong. This sauce freezes great and is also delicious mixed with some cooked macaroni and topped with shredded cheese. This is made almost exactly like I make my spaghetti sauce – you do NOT brown the ground beef before mixing everything together because this is what gives it a finer texture.

Ingredients:

  • 5 oz ground beef (do NOT cook before mixing with rest of ingredients)
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon plus 1/8 teaspoon firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 3 tablespoons minced fresh onion OR 1 1/2 teaspoons minced dried onion
  • Salt to taste
